Yue-Hashimoto, 2005 Language Information Sciences Research Centre, City University of Hong Kong, Kowloon, Hong Kong - Cummulative and comprehensive work on the Dancun dialect of Taishan in Guangdong Province. Her work features interesting and extensive discussions of the linguisitic history of the most prominent group of early emigrants to North America, and their language, including unusual features such as grammatically conditioned tonal variations which are unique among Chinese dialects, and a carefully annotated vocabulary of more than 4,500 words and expressions. Taishanese provides a unique vantage point for research in Chinese dialectology as well as enthnolinguistics and socialinguistics. This book is a must-read for anyone interested in Yue-Cantonese dialect and the Chinese language in general. Suggested reading for those that are serious about linguisitics but may be challenging for lay persons.

The FamilySearch resources available to the public for free include records of names exceeding 4 billion collected worldwide (much of it available online), the Family History Library in Salt Lake City (hailed by genealogists as the top research and collections library in the world), and almost 5,000 FamilySearch Centers worldwide. They have many satellite centers all around the country to help with your genealogy research.
- Hoisanva English Dictionary 台山話英文字典 - Gene’s Phonetic System (GPS) American English Romanization. The pronunciation of all characters is as used by natives in the capital of Hoisan (Hoiseng; Táichéng in pinyin). Hoisanva is a spoken language. Not all of the spoken language have corresponding Chinese characters or words. All Hoisanva characters are monosyllabic. There have two parts to each syllable: an initial part and a final part. In addition to the two parts, all characters have a tone, without which would render the character/word meaningless.

Elizabeth Lew has done an incredible job with her Liu/Lew family saga in the backdrop of Chinese immigration to America. The book contains 547 pages of individual stories making history come alive beginning with the Han Dynasty genealogy dating back over 5000 years to the journey to America by Elizabeth Lew's grandfather and her family genealogy.
